I use the word "bioavailability" often when folks ask me to tell them what the difference is between Shaklee supplements and others. When I first heard the word, I wanted a slight interpretation.. I surmised it had to do with biology and how available something is to the body. I was pretty close.
"Bioavalability: (noun) the proportion of a drug or other substance that enters the circulation when introduced into the body and so is able to have an active effect."
This "active effect" part is quite crucial when we are discussing nutritional supplements. You don't want to waste your money. You don't want the pill to sit undissolved in your stomach, and you certainly don't want the health concerns you set out to improve by increasing your nutrition, to simply persist.
When I first started learning about Shaklee, I wanted to hear the pure, honest truth.
Why should I take these over anything else?
What happened first, is that I trusted my older sister, who trusted Shaklee. Simple. It's that people/connection/fellow-man thing... we try the things that work for the people we love and trust.
Secondly, I scoured the peer-reviewed science that Shaklee has produced, and learned about the commitment to purity standards they have been faithful to for over 60 years. If you're interested, you can check it out here.
And once I was at this phase, there was no turning back. I was sold. I felt solid and founded in my nutritional choices, and also felt compelled to share just how good this company is.
That was several years ago, and here I am, still in awe of what this company does, and the science that goes into creating such natural, pure, safe, and effective products.
So tonight, I present my "bioavailabilty" experiment. Done in my kitchen, with my kids finally tucked in bed. I have some Rainbow Light prenatals, and Shaklee Vita-Lea, and a glass of warm water. (My kind of simple science experiment)
Hypothesis: Shaklee has a patented "bioavailability" or SMART delivery system, so the Vita-Lea supplement will dissolve much faster than the Rainbow Light.
Here's the experiment, in photos.

The difference in bioavailability in these two supplements is remarkable. Shaklee's Vita-Lea dissolved completely within 5 minutes, whereas Rainbow Light had not completely dissolved after 10 hours in water.
